NIC Watcher detects the connection status by checking pre-specified NICs.
It will frequently check the NIC connections status and will show it as OK when it is live. If it finds the connection dead, it will play a sound and flash a red warning message on the gadget.
The gadget can be configured to watch over up to eight controllers at once, displaying a new instance for each.
This handy tool is available for free from its developer, and donations are accepted at the homepage.
