Document Metadata Cleaner is a tool that can wipe metadata from certain document formats, including .doc, .xls and .ppt.

When you open and edit documents, metadata will often be saved to the files that you are unaware of. The information that is saved can be wiped with this tool.

The information includes:

• Your name
• Your initials
• Your company or organization name
• The name of your computer
• The name of the network server or hard disk where you saved the document
• The names of previous document authors
  Document revisions
• Document versions
• Hidden text or cells
• Comments

If you are unconvinced about the power of metadata to reveal information about the editor, you should know that serial killer Dennis Rader (BTK) was tracked down by authorities after he sent a word document on a floppy disk to police, who analysed the document and found information leading to his location in the metadata.
