It does this by detecting certain low-level activity that is consistent to the vast majority of ransomware in the wild. It also places files in various locations on your PC and uses them as bait, for lack of a better explanation. If a piece of ransomware tries to encrypt the files, then RansomFree will catch it in the act and can warn you.
